Me on a Long Island Shore.
Our next drive took us through New York City to Long Island where we visited two schools in Massapequa Park. The first school was Birch Lane with 1000 students K-6!
We saw many frogs, ducks, and snakes which the children had made. And in one hallway the walls were filled with bear faces all drawn and colored by the students.
At East Lake we saw 750 students K-6, One group sang me a song “The Little White Duck”. They had colored T-shirts for the animals they sang about. The mascot of East Lake is an eagle, so all the halls were decorated with quilts made from pages of my coloring pages. All Eagles! In a showcase in the school hall there was a Swamp scene with a realistic turtle and alligator made of paper mache! And I’ll never forget the colorful paper plate ducks on the walls.

Flag waving high at the seashore, Robert Moses State park, Long Island
3000 miles, 4 states, 16 schools, 4621 students, and 47 hour long presentations.
This was our biggest book tour to date!

Deanna and I want to thank all the teachers and librarians and library volunteers who prepared the children for my visit and the parent groups who provided lunches and help with the book signings. And especially the students who made us feel welcome with their bright smiles and happy faces.
   Thank You All!
